WASHINGTON (Eagle News) — The morning after U.S. President Donald J. Trump released a video distancing himself from the demonstrators who infiltrated the U.S. Capitol, he was back on Twitter and announced he will not attend President-Elect Joe Biden’s inauguration scheduled for January 20.

“To all those who have asked, I will not be going to the Inauguration on January 20th,” Trump tweeted.

This is in contrast with what he said in the released video that his focus would be turned into ensuring a “smooth, orderly, and seamless transition of power.”

Only three other U.S. incumbent president — John Adams in 1801, John Quincy Adams in 1829 and Andrew Johnson in 1869 — did not attend their successors’ inaugurations.
