Trump announces plans to use military to stop looting and vandalism in Washington

WASHINGTON, DC – JUNE 01: U.S. President Donald Trump makes a statement to the press in the Rose Garden about restoring “law and order” in the wake of protests at the White House June 01, 2020 in Washington, DC. Earlier in the day, President Donald Trump encouraged U.S. governors to be more aggressive against violent protesters following several nights of nationwide violence in response to the death of George Floyd while in the custody of the Minneapolis police. You have to dominate or you’ll look like a bunch of jerks, you have to arrest and try people,” he was reported saying during a call from the basement White House Situation Room. WASHINGTON (Eagle News) — After a another night of violent protest in Washington DC, crowds gathered again in front of the White House Monday afternoon. As the 7:00 p.m. curfew came about, President Donald Trump made a statement in front of the White house.

Trump slammed protests in Washington in which some properties and monuments have been vandalized. As the president spoke police struggled to disperse crowds.

“What happened in the city last night was a total disgrace,” Trump said. “As we speak I am dispatching thousands and thousands of heavily armed soldiers, military personnel and law enforcement officers to stop the rioting, looting, vandalism, assaults and wanton destruction of property.”

Trump also called on state governors to “dominate the streets” and then announced that he would deploy thousands of ‘heavily armed’ troops in Washington.
