(Eagle News) — Canadian voters have given Justin Trudeau’s Liberals another minority government in Monday’s federal election.

Trudeau had called an early election, gambling that his popularity could be translated into a majority government.

His win tonight means he will need the support of one or more of the opposition parties to pass legislation.

Final results will not be known for another day because of the large number of mail-in ballot which won’t be counted until tomorrow.

Many voters were angered that Trudeau called the election as the country battles a fourth wave of COVID-19, saying it was just a power grab.

Public opinion polls conducted throughout the campaign showed a majority of Canadians felt the election was unnecessary.

Trudeau justified going to the voters saying Canadians should have a say in how the country will proceed after the pandemic.

There were no major issues in the campaign.

COVID-19 and vaccine mandates have divided the electorate.

Anti-vaxxers protested at Trudeau campaign events.
