EDMONTON (Eagle News) — Beginning Monday, all airline passengers will have to wear masks according to a new Transport Canada order.

The order requires all arriving and departing passengers to prove they have the necessary non-medical mask or face covering during the boarding process or they won’t be allowed to continue their trip.

Travelers will also be asked to cover their mouth and nose at airport screening checkpoints when the screeners cannot always keep two meters of separation between themselves and the passenger, when they cannot physically distance from others, or as directed by airline employees and public health officials.

“Canadians should continue to follow public health advice and stay at home if possible,” said Transport Minister Marc Garneau. “However, if you need to travel, wearing a face covering is an additional measure you can take to protect others around you, especially in situations where physical distancing guidelines cannot be maintained.”

“Transport Canada will continue to ensure various transportation systems adapt to the most effective, preventive measures to protect Canadians,” he added.

The government advises people traveling by bus or rail to wear masks or face coverings as much as possible.
