Six dead in Canadian military helicopter crash in Mediterranean

EDMONTON (Eagle News) — A search is underway in the Mediterranean Sea for the wreckage of a Canadian Armed Forces helicopter that crashed during NATO military exercises.

Six people are believed to have been aboard the Sikorsky CH-148 Cyclone. All are believed to have been perished.

“Contact was lost with the aircraft as it was participating in Allied exercises off the coast of Greece,” the military said on Twitter.

“The CAF confirms we have contacted all primary family members of those who were on board the CH-148 Cyclone helicopter that was involved in an accident in the Mediterranean Sea,” the military tweeted. “Search and rescue efforts are currently underway. As this is evolving, we have no further information to provide at this time.”
