(Eagle News) — People trying to use two of Canada’s busiest border crossings into the U.S. are facing long waits as truckers in the Freedom Convoy protesting COVID-19 restrictions continue with blockades.

Overnight, access to the Ambassador Bridge which connects Windsor, Ontario in Canada with Detroit, Michigan in the U.S. was completely blocked.

The border crossing partially reopened at 6:00 a.m. ET to U.S. bound traffic only, police said Tuesday on Twitter.

Police are telling people to avoid the area and find alternate routes to the U.S.

The Ambassador Bridge crossing sees tens of millions of dollars worth of goods moving daily between both countries.

As well, many workers who work in one country but live in another also use that route in their commute to work.

A prolonged closure could affect hospitals in Michigan as many Canadian healthcare workers who work in Detroit are unable to get to their jobs.

Meanwhile in southern Alberta, protesters completely blocked the border crossing into Montana late yesterday and overnight.

Previously they had had allowed one lane of traffic to flow each way.

Police reported that traffic began moving again early Tuesday morning.

But they report lengthy delays.
