(Eagle News) — Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau rolled up his left sleeve Friday morning to receive a second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

Trudeau says the country should be receiving 68 million doses of vaccine by the end of the month.

“That’s mathematically enough for everyone in Canada to get two doses,” said Trudeau.

But he says it will take some time before everyone is fully vaccinated.

“We know for example that the spacing between the doses means that people who get their first dose now or a few days ago, won’t be eligible until later in the summer for their second dose and we need to continue to follow the science,” he said.

Trudeau received the Moderna vaccine for his second shot.

Back in April, he was vaccinated with the AstraZeneca vaccine.

Trudeau says he had a mild reaction after receiving his first dose and was told he may have a similar experience.

More than three-quarters of Canadians over 12 have received a first dose of the vaccine and close to 20 percent are fully immunized.

“The way people are stepping up on getting vaccinated has been extraordinary, and inspiring,” said Trudeau. “I look forward to seeing all Canadians vaccinated as quickly as possible, so we can get back to living as normal as possible in a global pandemic.”
