(Eagle News) — A manhunt is underway for a male suspect who opened fire at Michigan State University Monday evening in East Lansing, Michigan.

“It appears there is only one suspect at this time,” university police said in a tweet.

“The suspect is believed to be on foot right now,” police added. “Community members on and off campus should continue to shelter in place.”

Police say there are multiple injuries.

The Detroit News is quoting a university official as saying there is at least one fatality.

The wounded have been taken to hospital.

Police say the shooting began shortly after 8:00 p.m. local time.

After getting reports of an active shooter, the university sent out an alert telling people to secure in place immediately.

Several law enforcement agencies, including the FBI and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, are on the scene.
