NWS releases weather alert as another round of snow set to hit Washington DC area

(Eagle News) — Snow is set to fall again in the Washington Metropolitan area just days after the first major snow storm of the season crippled the Mid-Atlantic region of the U.S. and stranded hundreds of motorist on I-95 in Virginia.

The National Weather Service (NWS) released a Winter Weather Advisory early Thursday morning warning of snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches and high amounts of up to 6 inches in isolated areas.

The advisory is from 9 p.m. Thursday, January 6, 2022, to Friday, January 7, 2022, at 5 a.m.

According to the NWS, the advisory covers the Washington and Baltimore Metropolitan areas, portions of central and southern Maryland, and portions of northern Virginia.

Motorist are being asked to slow down and use caution since slippery road conditions are expected which could impact the Friday morning commute.

The heaviest snow is expected between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. when snowfall rates of an inch per hour are possible. Visibility is expected to be reduced to near or less than one-half mile.
