National Book Store Glorietta hosts European Literature Fair 2018

National Book Store Glorietta is hosting a European Literary Fair that the book store said will “celebrate European literature at its finest,” starting today, April 4, 2018.

According to NBS, with the fair,  “dozens of new book titles…” from Portugal to Poland, and from Sweden to Switzerland, among others, will be available to Filipino readers.

Book lovers can expect literary works from Cervantes, Shakespeare, Andersen and Hugo to the  famous Italian author Italo Calvino, Greek novelist Nikos Kazantzakis, Portuguese José Saramago and German Günter Grass; and Paris-based Czech writer Milan Kundera, among others, NBS said.

The works of new literary stars from Europe, such as French writer Michel Houellebecq, Hungarian László Krasznahorkai and Turkish Orhan Pamuk. Czech-American writer Jaroslav Kalfař can also be seen in the fair.

On opening night,  “Agos: Modern European Writers in Filipino,” the newest addition to the European Anthology series, will also make its debut in the Philippines.

I personally find it a unique opportunity to exemplify the awe-inspiring assortment of the European literary scene, and show that European authors cater to a multitude of literary tastes, and a variety of genres covering many literary styles,” said Czech Ambassador Jaroslav Olša, jr., who currently spearheads the informal European cultural group in Manila, EUNIC.

It is also to show how closely and interwoven the cultural heritage of Europe and the Philippines is, regardless of distance,” he added.

The fair will last until April 21.
