(Eagle News) — The British Monarchy is out of date and no longer has a place in the 21st century according to a public opinion poll released Tuesday.

The Leger poll was done following the explosive interview Prince Harry and wife Meghan did with Oprah Winfrey.

While 53% say the Royals should go, one out of three people asked were more sympathetic. They say the monarchy is part of Canada’s history and should be preserved.

Given the recent events, 59% of those asked sympathize more with Harry and Meghan while 26% are more supportive of the Royal Family.

On the issue of racism, 43 percent believe the Royal family holds racist views— 26% disagree and 31% say they don’t know.

This web survey was conducted from March 12, 2021 to March 14, 2021 with 1,512 Canadians, 18 years of age or older, randomly recruited from LEO’s online panel.

For comparison, a probability sample of 1,512 respondents would have a margin of error of ±2.52%, 19 times out of 20.
