(Eagle News) — Golf Legend Phil Mickelson made history yesterday when he, at 50 years of age, became the oldest to ever win a PGA Tour Golf Major Championship as he won the PGA Championship – the 2nd PGA Tour Major of the year – with a 6-under par finish.

This event was held at the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island in South Carolina, one of the toughest and roughest golf courses in the entire world.

During the course of the tournament, Mickelson definitely did not look 50 years old, hitting bombs all week – sending a 366 yard drive down the center of the fairway on the 2nd to the last hole in the final round of the championship.

“I’ve failed many times in my life and career and because of this I’ve learned a lot. Instead of feeling defeated countless times, I’ve used it as fuel to drive me to work harder. So today, join me in accepting our failures. Let’s use them to motivate us to work even harder.”

This is Phil’s 6th Major Championship in his career and watching him was extremely inspiring to watch – simply because of his age – he was able to take down the likes of fellow American, Brooks Koepka and South African Louis Oosthuizen, who are both in their 30s!

Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson’s long-time rival, congratulated him on his Major victory by Tweeting: “Truly inspirational to see @PhilMickelson do it again at 50 years of age. Congrats!!!!!!!”
