(Eagle News) — A new poll suggests nearly seven out of 10 Canadians think it is too early to lift all public health restrictions to control the spread of Covid-19.

The poll, released Tuesday, shows 69% of those asked think some restrictions should remain in place.

Another 24% were okay with a complete reopening of the country.

The poll was done by Leger for the Association for Canadians Studies.

It also found 66% of Canadians believe the worst of the pandemic is over.

One in 10 had a more pessimistic view — they felt the worst of the crisis is yet to come.

Canadians are evenly split on their fear of contracting the virus.

The poll found 49% afraid or somewhat afraid they would be infected — 46% said they were not afraid of getting Covid.

Leger surveyed 1,542 Canadians over the age of 18 from June 18 to 20. For comparison purposes, a probability sample of this size would have a margin of error ±2.49%, 19 times out of 20.
