Korean boyband BTS wins Top Social Artist Award at the BBMAs 2018 for 2nd year; Ed Sheeran takes home Top Artist prize

(Eagle News) — The Korean boy band group, BTS, also known as “Beyond The Scene,” won the Top Social Artist Award at the 2018 Billboard Music Award on Sunday, May 20 at the MGM Grand Stand Las Vegas.

This is the second consecutive year that the group won the said award overtaking singers like Justin Bieber, Demi Lovato, Ariana Grande and Shawn Mendes.

BTS also performed for the first time during the 2018 Billboard Music Awards. BTS is the first-ever Korean group to perform at the said music awards.

The seven member group also performed their new single “Fake Love” for the first time on television.

Janet Jackson, who accepted the 2018 Billboard Music Awards’ ICON Award also performed for the first time, as well as Kelly Clarkson, Ariana Grande, John Legend, Dua Lipa and Ed Sheeran with collaborations from Christina Aguilera featuring Demi Lovato, Camila Cabello and Pharrell Williams.

This is also the first time that Khalid & Normani, Jennifer Lopez featuring DJ Khaled, Macklemore and Kesha, Salt-N-Pepa featuring En Vogue, Shawn Mendes & Khalid and Zedd, Maren Morris and Grey performed in the Billboard Music Awards.

Meanwhile, Ed Sheeran took the home prize of “Top Artist” beating Drake, Kendrick Lamar, Bruno Mars and Taylor Swift.

Sheeran also won the Top Radio Song Artist, Top Song Sales Artist and Top Hot 100 Artist and Top Radio Song for “Shape of You.”

The singer is the most nominated artist of the night with 15 nominations.

The Top Female Artist was awarded to Taylor Swift. Her song “Reputation” was also named the Top Selling Album.
