(Eagle News) — The Detroit Pistons continue to flounder in the early season as the New York Knicks defeated them 121-112 on Friday night at a sold out Madison Square Garden.
The Pistons were without key player Point Guard Cade Cunningham who has been averaging 19.9 points, 6.2 rebounds and 6.0 assists in his sophomore season.
The first quarter was a tightly contested game between the two teams but the Knicks would put on a show for their fans, jumping to a double-digit lead by the end of the first half.
The Pistons tried to mount a comeback by opening the fourth quarter with a 15-7 run.
However, with a minute left on the clock, New York’s RJ Barrett would cash in two crucial free throws and Immanuel Quickley would hit a three-pointer, sealing the win for the Knicks.
Barrett lead the way with 30 points on 10-for-17 and finished with five assists and five rebounds.
This game came after New York’s brutal loss on Wednesday against the Brooklyn Nets 112-83.
“We played hard from the beginning. We got up to a lead and kind of kept that throughout the game” Barrett said during the postgame press conference. “It was fun basketball having multiple guys involved, everybody contributing.”
Knicks Point Guard Jalen Brunson added 26 points and went 8-for-16. He would dish out seven assists and four steals.
Power Forward Julius Randle would also contribute with 21 points shooting 8 for 18. He would add eight rebounds as well as five assists to his stats.
The Knicks travel to Oklahoma City to face off against the Thunder on Sunday, November 13.
