WASHINGTON (Eagle News) — After months of studying potential running mates for the 2020 presidential ticket, former Vice President and the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden announced that his pick for vice president is California Senator Kamala Harris.

“I have the great honor to announce that I’ve picked @KamalaHarris — a fearless fighter for the little guy, and one of the country’s finest public servants — as my running mate,” tweeted Biden on Tuesday afternoon.

Biden makes history with his pick as Harris becomes the first woman of color to be on a U.S. Presidential ticket.

Biden’s team stated that the two Democrats will deliver remarks on Wednesday in Wilmington, Delaware as they kick off their campaign to defeat the Republican Trump.

After making the choice public, Harris posted her first tweet concerning the nomination.

@JoeBiden can unify the American people because he’s spent his life fighting for us. And as president, he’ll build an America that lives up to our ideals. I’m honored to join him as our party’s nominee for Vice President, and do what it takes to make him our Commander-in-Chief,” tweeted Harris.
