Governor approves requests to reopen more businesses across Aloha State

HONOLULU (Eagle News) – Governor David Ige approved on Wednesday, May 27, Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell’s proposal to safely reopen more businesses and operations on Oahu, under guidelines that will ensure the safety of employees and customers.

Caldwell’s proposal includes the resumption of operations on Friday, May 29, with modifications for “personal service providers” such as the following (not all inclusive):

  1. Barbers
  2. Hairdressers
  3. Nail technicians
  4. Other beauty operators

The proposal also includes the reopening of outdoor attractions with limitations, starting Thursday, May 28.  This includes:

  1. Sea life attractions
  2. Water parks
  3. Pools
  4. Campgrounds
  5. People’s open markets
  6. Shooting and archery ranges
  7. Similar outdoor facilities

The proposal also allows the following to resume operations on June 5 with modifications: business/commercial businesses (in addition to restaurants), indoor residential, non-commercial gatherings of 10 or less (regardless of household).

MAUI COUNTY (including Molokai and Lanai Islands) – Ige has also approved Mayor Michael Victorino’s request to reopen most businesses and services, with modifications, starting on June 1.  The following public gathering areas will also open:

  1. Dog parks
  2. Playgrounds and skate parks
  3. All county parks and beach parks (individual park reopening dates are subject to change)
  4. Select county pools

The following businesses and services (not all inclusive) must remain closed:

  1. Theatres
  2. Public gathering venues
  3. Banquet halls
  4. County community centers
  5. County gymnasiums

HAWAII COUNTY (Big Island) – Earlier this week, the governor approved Mayor Harry Kim’s proposal to reopen with modifications, the following businesses/operations starting June 1:

  1. Places of worship
  2. Personal services (salons, barber shops, beauty operators)
  3. Restaurants (including food courts)

KAUAI COUNTY – With the governor’s approval, Mayor Derek Kawakami had previously reopened with modifications the following medium-risk business and activities on May 22:

  1. Public and private pools
  2. Places of worship
  3. Outdoor tour activities
  4. Salons and barbershops
  5. All cleaning and construction work
  6. One-on-one personal services (fitness, tutoring, music lessons)
