Five dead including gunman in Denver shooting spree

(Eagle News) — A shooting spree that started in Denver, Colorado and continued into neighboring Lakewood ended in a police shoot out with the gunman fatally shot, four victims dead and three wounded, including a police officer.

The first incident happened in Denver just after five o’clock Monday evening with the gunman killing two women and wounding a man.

Shortly after, a second shooting happened a few miles away leaving an adult male dead.

The gunman fired his gun at another location but did not injury anyone.

In the fourth location in Denver, police exchanged gunfire with the suspect.

“Denver police officers identified a vehicle associated with this incident. There was a pursuit that ensued. There was an exchange of gunfire between the individual, the suspect here, and our officers,” said  Paul Pazen, Denver police chief. Fortunately our officers were not injured as a result of this location, incident. We believe that the individual, after disabling the police car, fled into Lakewood at that time.”

In Lakewood, police caught up with the suspect as he tried to move location again.

“Fire was then exchanged again with our agents, the shooter in this case was taken down,” said Lakewood police spokesman John Romero, adding the gunman was “pronounced dead on the scene”.

A Lakewood officer and another individual were shot and injured during the altercations in Lakewood.

“That agent is currently at the hospital undergoing surgery right now,” Romero said at the Monday night press conference.

While the shooter’s motivations remain unknown, authorities did confirm all the shootings were connected.

“This one individual was responsible for this very violent crime spree that took place this evening,” Pazen said.
