LAS VEGAS (Eagle News) — Eagle News was outside the T-Mobile Arena just minutes after the Vegas Golden Knights win the Stanley Cup Final 9-3 against the Florida Panthers.
Only six season since their NHL debut, the Vegas Golden Knights wins the coveted Stanley Cup. They dominated the Florida Panthers, 9-3, in Game 5 of the Finals and what better way to do it than in front of their home crowd.
The Vegas Golden Knights is the first professional sports team to call Las Vegas home, and have been one of the most successful expansion teams in the history of sports. They are the first team in NHL history to have started their inaugural season winning eight of their first nine games.
But their fans don’t just love them for their winning streaks. The Las Vegas community embraced the Vegas Golden Knights 6 years ago as they helped heal the city after the tragic October 1 mass shooting – and the fans will always remember how the team brought the community together.
“You know what we need this. We’ve been through a lot as a community and this just brings everyone together for a good cause,” said Vegas fan Tiffany.
“This is amazing for the city of Vegas, for the state of Nevada,” said Golden Knights fan Angel. “This is history… our children’s here, our whole family is here.”
Another fan said, “We’ve never really had an identity as a culture and a city until the Golden Knights came. And especially after what happened with the shooting, people have no idea what this means to us.”
“It’s a moment in time, said hockey fan Yazmin. “It brought the whole city together. Look at everybody, it’s amazing!”
The Las Vegas community couldn’t be prouder to now be called a hockey championship town.
