NEW YORK (Eagle News) — The Tribute in Lights, an annual public art installation, once again shone brightly on the night of September 11 as a remembrance to honor the nearly 3,000 lost and as a symbol of the resilient spirit of New Yorkers.

The Tribute in Lights stretches four miles high into the sky, representing the Twin Towers which were attacked on September 11, 2001. The World Trade Center towers were an iconic part of the downtown New York City skyline. (Photo by Joanne Soriano, EBC New York Bureau, Eagle News Service.)

The lights are assembled on the roof of the Battery Parking Garage, a few blocks south of the 9/11 Memorial. The beams are made up of eighty-eight xenon light bulbs and positioned into two 48-foot squares to represent the shape and orientation of the original towers.
