(Eagle News) — Cyberpunk 2077 was one of the most anticipated games heading into 2020. However, when it finally released in December 2020, it was met with harsh criticism and negative feedback. The game was littered with bugs and overhyped promises. Players of old-generation consoles could not play the game without encountering a bug every minute or so. Cars were defying the laws of physics disappearing into the floor or buildings; NPCs and the environment were not rendering, forcing the player to wait until the scene was fully rendered; and dialogues between characters were not playing correctly.

The maker of the game, CD Projekt Red, received much backlash. The company promised their fanbase to work to make the game into a quality product.

For the past two years, CD Projekt Red released free patches addressing and fixing the bugs experienced during the launch. The patches did not just fix all of the bugs but also added new scenes, new vehicles, and new weapons. In addition to the free patches, the company offered players free downloadable content.

Two years after its horrible launch, Cyberpunk 2077 now sits at number one of the bestseller list on video gaming website Steam.

The release of the anime Cyberpunk: Edgerunners has helped tremendously in the game’s come back. With many in both the gaming and anime community praising the anime, more people have been inclined to give the game either a second chance or to play it for the first time.

Cyberpunk fans can also look forward to a big expansion DLC titled Phantom Liberty which is set to release in 2023.
