(Eagle News) — Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has wished the United States a Happy 245th birthday as American celebrates Independence Day.
“There’s no friendship like the one between Canada and the US,” Trudeau said Sunday on Twitter. “Today, we’re wishing all of our American friends a very happy Independence Day!”
July 4th commemorates the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776 when the 13 colonies broke away from England to form the United States.
But even though Canada and the U.S. have a close relationship, the border between the two countries has been closed to non-essential travel for nearly 16 months.
The latest deadline for reopening is July 21.
