EDMONTON (Eagle News) — As the economic crisis from the COVID-19 pandemic deepens, the Canadian government is giving the country’s food banks money to restock their bare cupboards.

The government will provide $100 million to meet the urgent food needs of vulnerable Canadians, including those living in indigenous and northern communities, Trudeau said Friday. “This money will help ensure that organizations can buy and deliver food to those who need it most.”

Prime Minister Trudeau said Friday he recognizes the tough times food banks are facing.

With everyone staying home, they have fewer volunteers,” said Trudeau. “And a difficult economic climate means they are receiving fewer donations than they normally would while demand rises.”(Eagle News Service)

The prime minister urged people to help out if they can.

If you have the time and ability to help, reach out to your local food bank and ask them how you can help them,” said Trudeau.
