EDMONTON (Eagle News) — A ban on non-essential travel between Canada and the United States will remain in place for another month, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced Tuesday.

“I can now confirm that Canada and the United States have once again, have agreed to extend by 30 days, to July 21st, the current measure in place along out border,” said Trudeau. “This is an important decision that will keep people in both of our countries safe.”

This is the third such extension since the border was closed in March. It had been set to reopen this Sunday.

For now, tourists and cross border visits remain banned.

There are some exemptions. Trade and commerce traffic continues to flow. Healthcare workers who live and work on opposite sides of the border are also allowed to cross and close family members have been allowed to reunite.
