(Eagle News) — Another shot in the arm for Canada’s vaccine rollout as the United States is giving it an additional one million doses of Moderna Covid-19 vaccine, Procurement Minister Anita Anand said Thursday.
“Canada has reached an agreement with the U.S. government under which Canada will receive an additional one million doses of the Moderna vaccine, set to arrive this evening,” Anand tweeted. “I would like to thank President Biden and my counterpart Jeffrey Zients for their partnership.”
Anand didn’t provide any details of the agreement with the U.S.
She says for the month of June, Canada is on track to receive more than 20 million doses of the Covid vaccine.
“We continue to work with partners around the world, including the United States, to ensure access to vaccines for Canadians, as well as to help meet demands internationally,” she said.
Anand says 74% of eligible Canadians have already received their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine and second doses are ramping up.
