(Eagle News) — The Canadians government is working on a risk assessment tool that can help fully vaccinated people decide whether it is safe to forgo things like wearing a face mask or social distancing.

Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Theresa Tam says the risk assessment will take into account a number of factors.

“I think that kind of a tool will enable each individual to assess that in their own individual context,” Tam said Tuesday.

She says some of the information a person should consider is whether they have had one dose, two doses or no doses of the Covid-19 vaccine.

As well, people should consider their underlying medical factors and risk conditions, who they are meeting, whether those people are vaccinated and whether they are in an outdoor or indoor setting.

“It’s not a straight black and white, sort of everybody take off their masks, everybody just do whatever you want,” said Tam. “We would like to enable people to take themselves through that kind of risk assessment while respecting local public health requirements.”
