Apple discontinuing iPod after more than 20 years

(Eagle News) The iconic iPod line, which revolutionized the music industry 21 years ago, is set to come to an end. Apple’s announced that it will discontinue producing the iPod touch and said the music device will be available only “while stocks last.”

“Music has always been part of our core at Apple, and bringing it to hundreds of millions of users in the way iPod did impacted more than just the music industry — it also redefined how music is discovered, listened to, and shared,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.

Joswiak added that the “spirit of iPod lives on” through the range of gadgets that Apple produces such as the iPhone, Apple Watch, smart speakers, computers, iPad, and Apple TV.

The iPod touch is currently on sale on Apple’s official website, starting at $199 apiece. The device comes in three models of six colors.

The first iPod was unveiled by Apple boss Steve jobs on October 23, 2001 and could store 1,000 tracks.
