(Eagle News) — Canada could be among the countries the United States sends surplus vaccines to, US President Joe Biden hinted Wednesday.

“We’re looking at what is going to be done with some of the vaccines that we are not using,” said Biden. “We’ve got to make sure they are safe to be sent and we hope to be able to be of some help and value to countries around the world.”

Those countries could include Canada, according to the president.

“I’ve talked to our neighbours. As a matter of fact, a fella who is working really hard to take care of his country and deal with this, I was on the phone for about a half an hour today and the prime minister of Canada,” he said. “We helped a little bit there, we’re going to try to help some more.”

Other recipients of the excess vaccines would include Central American countries.

Biden says it will be awhile before any shipments are made.

“It’s in process. We don’t have enough to be confident to send it abroad now but I expect we’re going to be able to do that,” he said.
