(Eagle News) — Only a slim majority of Canadians believe the government will be able to provide enough Covid-19 vaccine for everyone who wants a shot by the end of September, a new survey reveals.

In a poll done by Leger for the Association of Canadian studies, 56% of those asked said they were confident the government would reach its immunization targets this fall..

But 40% doubted there would be enough doses of the vaccine to go around to meet the government’s goal.

Almost half of the people asked, who have not received their vaccine, believe it will be several months before they can be immunized.

The survey revealed 43% thought it will be August or later before they get their first dose of the vaccine.

The poll also found the majority of Canadians are in no hurry to end economic lockdowns and restrictions.

It found 31% would be comfortable with ending restrictions when all Canadians who want to be immunized have received their shots.

Another 18% were more cautious, saying the country should wait for six months after everyone has been vaccinated.

Twelve per cent believe we should wait until all seniors had been vaccinated and 18% said restrictions should be lifted when 50% of Canadians had been given their shots.

Only 14% said there should be an immediate end to restrictions.

The online survey polled 1,532 Canadians between February 26th , 2021 to February 28th , 2021. A margin of error cannot be associated with a non-probability sample in a panel survey. For comparison purposes, a probability sample of this size would have a margin of error ±2.50%, 19 times out of 20 for the Canadian sample and of ±3.09%, 19 times out of 20 for the American sample.
