PHL, Papua New Guinea ink agricultural agreement

(Eagle News)– The Philippines and Papua new Guinea have inked an agreement to strengthen bilateral cooperation in agriculture.

President Rodrigo Duterte made the announcement in a joint press conference with Papua New Guinea Prime Minister Peter O’Neill on Wednesday, May 16, after a bilateral meeting in Malacanang.

The agreement covers in particular rice grains and industrial crops production; livestock breeding and improvement; ; aquaculture and inland fish farming; and agri-business development.

According to the President, during the bilateral meeting, they also discussed defense and security cooperation, trade and investment relations, agriculture cooperation, and people-to-people exchanges.

“These high-level exchanges demonstrate the depth of our desire to bring our nations and peoples closer,” Duterte said.

O’Neill is slated to visit the Philippine Rice Research Institute in Nueva Ecija before he leaves the country on Thursday, May 17.
