PHL condemns Indonesia suicide bombings

(Eagle News) – The Philippines has condemned the suicide bomb attacks at three churches in Surabaya, Indonesia on Sunday, May 13 that killed at least 13 people and wounded dozens.

“The Philippines strongly condemns these criminal acts that were carried out against innocent churchgoers,” Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano said in a statement.

“We join the people of Indonesia in mourning those who lost their lives in the terrorist bombings of several churches in Surabaya this morning,” he added.

According to reports, the attacks which happened  around 7:00 a.m. in Indonesia’s second largest city, were carried out by a family of six, who were linked to local extremist network Jamaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD) which allegedly supports the Islamic State.

Sunday’s bombings which were claimed by the IS group were Indonesia’s deadliest in years.
