Massive power outage leaves thousands of New Yorkers in the dark

NEW YORK CITY (Eagle News) —

A portion of the city that never sleeps has gone dark.

The areas affected include the upper west Side and midtown west. Major tourist attractions including Times Square, Rockefeller center and Columbus circle are without power.

Traffic lights are out. Subway stations are dark and police are preventing anyone from entering the affected stations.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio tweeted, “@NYCEmergencyMgt is working with the NYPD, FDNY and city agencies to respond to power outages in Manhattan due to a manhole fire earlier this evening.”

Con Edison reported over 42,000 customers have been affected. No injuries have been reported.
