VANCOUVER, CANADA (Eagle News) — The Ottawa Senators stole a game on the road with a 6-2 win over the Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Arena on Wednesday night. After leading 2-1 to end the first period, the Canucks would not score the rest of the night while the Senators would score six straight goals to claim the win.

Five different players contributed to Ottawa’s high-scoring offense. Forward Brady Tkachuck led the Senators with two goals and two assists. Goaltender Craig Anderson also played big for Ottawa with 44 saves.

Vancouver outshot Ottawa 46-29, but failed to hit the back of the net enough times for the win.

“Even in the second and third, I thought we played pretty good,” Canucks Defenseman Quinn Hughes said. “They made the most of their chances tonight and we didn’t.”

Canucks Goaltender Thatcher Demko made his first start in net in over seven days. Despite giving up six goals, he made no excuses for his performance.

“It’s my job to be ready,” said Demko. “I take pride in getting my team a chance to win and I wasn’t able to do that tonight.”

Adam Gaudette was one of the forwards fighting to earn a roster spot for Vancouver. He made a splash for the Canucks by opening the scoring in the first period. He leads the NHL this preseason with four goals. Gaudette mentioned his chances of cracking the roster.

“I’m doing all I can right now and giving it my all,” said Gaudette. “I focused on getting stronger and faster this offseason and now I’m focused on playing my game. That’s all I can control.”

Both clubs will play one more preseason game and then will make their final cuts before the start of league’s regular season in October.
